The Bill passed the Council unanimously on the 17th instant.
The only items in the Schedule attached to it which recur to me as demanding remark are the Post Office and the Colonial Surgeon.
Date
The Post Office was not a Colonial department at the time of my forwarding Sketch of Estimates, and was therefore not included therein; but the Salaries assigned in the Schedule recommended in my Despatch aforesaid to this Ordinance are those proposed in my Despatch No. 64 of 5th May last, when the Post Office department was placed under our control.
The Colonial Surgeon's Salary is still, as your Lordship is aware, under your reference at Dr. Murray's request, see my Despatch No. 4 of 30th June last, but I have put down the sum of £800 as that which Dr. Murray originally accepted before his appointment with the prohibition from private practice. I trust this Ordinance will receive Her Most Gracious Majesty's Approval and Confirmation.
